Description
Graded Good 30 by SGC. Great example of this very scarce and popular card which is so similar in appearance to the famous T206 Wagner and dates from the same era. Honus did not want to encourage youngsters to smoke but apparently had no problem with encouraging them to eat candy. The "Flying Dutchman" is the key card in the 1910 E90-2 American Caramel set. The 1910 E90-2 set was a "regional" type issue, consisting of 11 members of the 1909 World Series champion Pittsburgh Pirates. Babe Adams, Fred Clarke and Wagner were among the stars of the day included in the set, issued in Pennsylvania, where American Caramel was based. The cards measure 1 1/2" by 2 3/4" and advertise "Baseball Caramels" on the back. Not many have survived in the 98 years that have passed. The classic portrait pose and bold blue background make this one of the most sought after Honus Wagner cards. This is one of prewar card collecting's most desirable cards and one of the hardest Honus Wagner cards to find.
