Description
Well, "THE SEASON IS WINDING DOWN"!!!!!!!!!! Up for auction is a framed 1997 uncut Masters Collection sheet featuring all the Masters Champions from Horton Smith through to Tiger Wood's 1997 record setting win. Consider this for an early Christmas gift for that special someone. Grand Slam Ventures put much thought into the production of this fine piece with subtle features like using Black and White print from 1934 through 1964 and changing over to color from 1965 on... which coincides with the introduction of the Colored TV sets in the home. Several camera shots captured final round winning poses such as Gary Player's "victory march" up 18 with his arm around his caddy, Jack Nicklaus winning putt to win the 1986 Masters, Larry Mize's famous chip in from off the green to defeat Greg Norman in a playoff, Nick Faldo's final putt to again beat Greg Norman. Of all the uncut sheets that ran from 1993 (ending with Bernhard Langer) to 1999 (ending with Jose Maria Olazabal) this one ending with Tiger Woods is the most sought after sheet. I have seen here on EBAY many of the 1999 ( last year produced ) prints but most of the 1997's are in collectors hands who know the value this fine piece of art. Why? If you go back to the 1997/1998 period when Tiger Woods won the Masters with his record performance, the hype on TV and in Magazines was at a fever pitch. One of "The Home Shoppers networks" began selling these same sheets for huge $$$$ with their easy 3 payment schedules. According to a Sports collectors article back in 2000, one of these TV advertisers cited a PSA Gem mint 10 Tiger Rookie Card as going for a whopping $20,000 and were offering this same card as part of an uncut sheet PRO graded at Gem Mint 10 for a mere $4000. This sheet was advertised as having the "Original Rookie Card" ...which it did... but as you can imagine, not in a PSA Gem mint 10. Many of these 1997 sheets were laser cut using the latest technology by sharp entrepeneurs just to get the Tiger card to grade and sell at a Premium. This created a huge shortage of this particular sheet and today the available quantity is an unknown but based on not seeing any here on EBAY, you can bet its small. This sheet used a thick stock (same thickness as the cards of that year) as compared with the thinner stock used in later years. Please notice the 1997 sheet has a very sharp and bold ink coloring which is why the Grand Slam Ventures products stood out from those produced in the later years. I had it framed with a black metallic frame to prevent warping and used a rustic gold matting to accent the borders of each photo....(Looks Beautiful). Important.. Instead of a Glass Mount, I had this framed with non-fading acid free arylite. Anyone who has bought a glass framed picture knows why. I have bought 2 off of Ebay and both arrived with the glass shattered. This would make a fine gift for that Special someone or for your office/den wall. I've had this piece since 1998 and it has been one of the great conversation pieces in my collection....hope it is in Yours. ...Good Luck on bidding for the Champions of Golf!!! I am a Collector of Grand Slam Venture Golf Cards, Titleist, Ping, Nike, Callaway, and Scotty Cameron Memorabilia. PLEASE NOTE: SHIPPING COSTS HAD TO BE RAISED BASED ON AN OVERSIZED CARTON AND SPECIAL HANDLING COSTS.
